Church and Tenant Empowerment Worker
Work with Hope into Action: Coventry
About the role
We are looking for someone to join the Coventry team for 8 hours a week as an Empowerment Worker, supporting one house and one partner church.
As an Empowerment Worker you will be supporting our tenants who have been homeless as well as encouraging our church volunteers in their role in mentoring, befriending and giving practical support to tenants. Tenants may either be singles or families who have been homeless or at risk of homelessness.
We are in the process of opening a new house with a partner church in the East of Coventry, and that house and partner church will be the main focus of this role.
To suit this role, we are looking for someone who is passionate about the church and loving the homeless. You will need to be able to work with tenants with support needs, including poor mental health, past offending, and drug and alcohol dependency issues. You will also need to work with church leaders and church members. Hope into Action: Coventry is a small and growing organisation and so the ability to work in a small flexible team and learn new skills is important.
A demonstrable understanding and commitment to the mission and values of Hope into Action is essential. It is therefore an Occupational Requirement (Schedule 9 part 1 of the Equality Act 2010) of this post to have a committed Christian faith.
The first Hope into Action house was opened in Peterborough in 2010, since then network has grown and opened over 75 houses in 25 locations across the UK. Each house is a home to about two to four tenants. Hope into Action get referrals from many agencies including the council, probation, rehabs and specialist agencies.
Hope into Action: Coventry opened its first house in 2018. We are a Franchise of Hope into Action UK and work very closely with the Hope into Action Network. For us, success is our tenants receiving and feeling loved by the church. For more information on Hope into Action and its values please visit our website.
